Mount Pleasant's drive was kept alive by clutch passes by Cannon, Andrew Flanagan, Tarrence Taylor, and Tyterrious Wilkerson which gained first downs.
The orange Tigers, though, were unfazed by their deficit. Facing third and thirteen, Texas High's QB was stopped short of a first down, but Mount Pleasant was flagged for an out of bounds late hit which gave Texas High first down at MP's 45.
On second down, Texas High's running back fumbled, after gaining seven yards and Brown made the recovery at midfield for MP.
Things got very interesting in the second half as Texas High ignited its offense while Mount Pleasant's was roughed up.
After going three and out again, Mount Pleasant attempted a fake punt but James' throw to Flanagan was too far and fell incomplete.
Taking advantage of the break three plays later, Texas High scored on a 35 yard run to decrease its gap 28 14 at 4:52 of the third.
Both offenses went three and out and exchanged punts.
The orange Tigers' next possession lasted only a single snap as Joshua Scoggin tipped up a pass and intercepted it to place his team's offense at the Texas high 38.

Mount Pleasant took the ball at its own 15 and reached the 41. From there James hurled a deep pass which landed accurately in the arms of Cannon (who was a step in front of a defender) who finished off a 59 yard touchdown play and help his team increase its winning margin 28 7 at 6:41 of the third quarter.

Hardly a work of art, but Mount Pleasant High School's varsity football team roughed out a 35 23 win over Texas High in Texarkana on Friday night. In the process, the black and gold Tigers snapped a decade long losing skid to Texas High and also improved their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
Jamald McGill Scott Spencer brought Texas High's drive to a halt by intercepting a pass and giving his team possession at its own 33.
"I was not very pleased with our offense during the second half," Graham said. "We were synching well during the first half, things were going our way and we were making plays. I do not think we took Texas High for granted during the second half, but we just were not making plays."
Flanagan gained seven yards on a reception, but James was sacked two time in a row and Mount Pleasant punted.

An off sides infraction against Mount Pleasant brought the orange Tigers to the two, but a high snap caused their quarterback to chase the ball before being downed for a big loss by Scoggin and Ja'marlon Brown. After recovering 13 yards on a run, the orange Tigers hit a 36 yard field goal to further slice into its lead 28 17 at 11:54 of the fourth period.

Mount Pleasant's offensive line really began to collapse during its next possession allowing two sacks, being penalized for two consecutive false starts and allowing James to be hurried into throwing incomplete three times. With the ball at the Texas 27, the black and gold Tigers went for it in fourth down but James' 12 yard run was five yards short and MP turned the ball over on downs.
Starting their second drive at their own four yard line after both teams went three and out and punted during their opening drives the MP Tigers constructed a 14 play drive that was capped off by Kaderius Cannon who caught a pass from Montravious James and then swerved past three defenders to get into the end zone at 3:11 of the opening quarter. MP only went up 6 0 after the orange Tigers blocked the extra point.
Mount Pleasant, however, was unable to move very far and James' punt rolled and Puma Shoes pinned the enemy Tigers at their own four. Texas high went nowhere and Joel Bautista, on third down, appeared to have sacked the orange quarterback in the end zone. But MP did not receive the two points for a safety as officials declared that Texas High's quarterback, injured during the play, had thrown the ball incomplete before being brought down.
Texas High punted and was also flagged for a personal foul and the black and gold got the ball back at their enemy's 19.
Texas High got the ball back at its own 18 and gained a first down, moving the ball to the 31, then had a scoring opportunity literally slip through its hands when a reverse halfback pass play worked perfectly until the orange Tigers' wide open receiver dropped the ball.
The orange Tigers, now using their backup QB, moved efficiently down the field and scored on a 30 yard touchdown pass with 37.4 second left before halftime.
